SUMMARY:Ave Maria Patriots - Cuban Born Nery Barnet Kircher
DESCRIPTION:Nery remembers a nice childhood in middle-class Cuba under President Batista. Then Castro took over\, promising elections and democracy – all lies\, that Nery witnessed and experienced first hand. His first act was the confiscation of arms – first it was voluntary\, then mandatory. His second act was changing the currency\, and confiscating both private savings and physical property. The government took control of Nery’s father’s business. His third act was food rationing. Nery’s father presented paperwork to leave Cuba in 1965. In 1968\, Nery and her father were sent to separate labor camps – specifically because he requested to leave the country. \nWith no notice and with one change of clothing\, Nery was on the 1971 Freedom Flight to the US\, but that came only after being a teenager in the Ceja Dos Forced Labor Camp for 3 years in Cuba. It was surrounded by an electric fence\, where she was identified by a number. She worked in the fields and lived in unspeakable conditions. When you come to our meeting\, you will learn what Nery did to keep herself mentally strong throughout her ordeal. \nCome out and bring a friend and hear from our inspiring guest speaker.
